Burgau is a small Portuguese village about 10 kilometres west of Lagos. Like so many Portuguese villages it has a historic core, in this case a picturesque cove with small boats pulled up into the valley which descends to the sea and with houses clustering around. Change is happening however and much of the village's income is now derived from tourism. This has an impact on the form of the village as pressure for accommodation increases and more and more building takes place on the outskirts.
