Loosestrife

Loosestrife

Purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is a very adaptable weed. Here it is flourishing in Titanic Quarter in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Almost a symbol of urban decay as it sprouts up in derelict areas, its adaptability is such that it has become an invasive species in North America where it was introduced. This area of Belfast is set for redevelopment in the same fashion as Laganside, part of which can be seen in the distance.
